Stewart Avenue has an active Church Council consisting of 15 members who meet monthly and serve as the decision-making body for all matters affecting the church from ground’s surveillance to evangelism. Members are selected by a Nominating Committee yearly and an election of officers which includes the President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer, as well as Financial Secretary (monitors budget), Assistant Financial Secretary (records weekly offerings), Parish Education (coordinates all aspects of Sunday School), Trustees (oversight of church grounds), Elders (coordinates worship functions of the service such as lay readers and acolytes) and Deacons (weekly plate collection). Council Members share responsibility for counting of weekly offerings. All members are invited to actively participate and serve as a member of council so that new ideas can be shared.

SAELC COMMITTEES
Stewart Avenue has many Committees that coordinate the functions of the church which include:

Evangelism: Committee meets monthly and plans ways to provide fellowship opportunities for new members, current members and the community.

Mutual Ministries: Facilitates communication between Pastor and congregational needs. Committee meets every six weeks to discuss issues.

Music and Worship: This committee is responsible for planning the order of worship through the church calendar year for Sunday services as well as special Services. The yearly church calendar provides specific dates for observance of Pentecost, Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent and Easter.

Stewardship: Each person’s prayerful response to God’s overwhelming generosity by giving of themselves, their time and their possessions. The committee meets quarterly to assess the financial needs of the church.

SAELC VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Altar Guild: altar cloths, flowers, candles and communion needs are maintained by those who volunteer to serve on this committee.

Coffee Hour Coordinators: members volunteer to provide snack and serve coffee following the late service September through June.

Choir: The choir sings at the late service and meets on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. for practice. Those with musical instrument talent are welcome to share their expertise with the congregation.

Deacons: serve as ushers to pass the collection plate and assist with communion at each Service.

Food Pantry Helpers: meets monthly to pack orders for food pantry recipients.

Greeters: greet worshipers before each service.

Lay Assistants: read lessons of the day, assist Pastor with service and communion at each Service.

Sunday School Staff: teachers and administrative support staff coordinate the educational program and special activities such as the Christmas Pageant and Trim-a-Tree.
